Notes from the island

I’m writing this newsletter from Mauritius, where I’ve just arrived. It feels like the right moment to share a few updates with you.
Piano sessions at Tricone Studios
Last month I was recording piano for my new EP at Tricone Studios in Berlin. They have a beautiful Bösendorfer there, it was a beauty to play. I hope to record the next pieces on it too, though that may change depending on where my adventures take me. The EP has five tracks and is set for release in October.

On stage and in the studio
The past weeks have been full of music with friends — shows with Ebla, a singer from Berlin via Syria; shows with Morena Leraba, an brilliant artist from Lesotho; and time in the studio with Donata, a singer from Holland now based in Berlin. Each moment brought its own spark, and I’m glad to share a glimpse here.

Tour hacks
At one of our gigs in Germany, the production forgot to supply me with two keyboard stands. The technicians improvised on the spot and built one out of wood and drink crates. It worked, and the show went on.

Unexpected Paris moment
While in Paris I caught a Banksy piece — a man on a horse — just as someone drove past on an e-scooter. The overlap turned the photo into something else entirely, like the past colliding with the present.

From now on, I’ll be sharing more of my personal projects here in the Aron Ottignon newsletter, while the Urban Trout newsletter will focus on official releases and the artists we’re developing. This means you’ll hear from me here a bit more often, and Urban Trout less often. You can opt in and out of either whenever you want.
The bigger picture is about taking more control of our platforms and building something direct between us. Maybe one day that includes paid subscriptions — but for now, it’s simply about keeping you close to the journey.
More soon. Thanks for reading.
P.S. If you’d like to support, consider picking up my last vinyl release — Aron & The Jeri Jeri Band — available through Modulor Distribution. It also makes a great gift.
